WHAT THERE IS TO DO NOW
“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” Meister Eckhart
Kneel down and pray,
pray for those who cannot
catch a break,
pray for the little girl wandering
alone in the rubble,
pray for the grandfather waiting
in vain for his son to arrive.
Pray for the silent who close
their mouths in fear,
pray for the bombastic who
open their mouths in fear,
pray for those who never speak.
Pray for those who pray for others,
pray for those in grief
and for those too ill to plead,
pray and give thanks
for the beauty surrounding,
the angelic voices that lift
the whole, burdens flying away
as though they never existed
pray for the mamas and children
may they be held in sustaining arms,
pray that food, warmth and smiles
are shared with those who might
never be found.
Pray for the animals huddling
in the cold, survival uncertain.
Pray for thee and pray for me,
spread the thread of love
until it is so mightily thin it will
encompass the world.

Lovely poem, to the heart, Susan. Never, at least in my adult lifetime, have we needed prayer more. I suspect that love can withstand the stretching until it covers the world without fear that it will become too thin. It’s things done in the name of love that are concerning, I believe.
